FedEx ($FDX) Shifts Focus to Higher-Value Customers as Q3 Results Show Strong Growth

FedEx is reshaping its business around customers that need specialized, time-sensitive logistics rather than simply low-cost parcel delivery. Its latest third-quarter results suggest the strategy is beginning to pay off.
Revenue reached $22.9 billion, up 12%, while adjusted earnings per share rose 28% to $3.74. Adjusted operating income increased 16%. Around 60% of FedEx revenue now comes from business-to-business customers, reflecting its growing focus on higher-value shipping segments.
AI data centers were the fastest-growing customer vertical, supported by demand for large, time-sensitive shipments. FedEx reported a 15-fold increase in aircraft engine movements tied to this customer base. Healthcare also delivered double-digit growth, while the automotive business expanded at a high single-digit rate after FedEx added 13 major customers.
The company is also prioritizing pricing discipline over low-margin volume. Ground Economy shipments declined 4%, but U.S. domestic package yield increased 7% and international package yield climbed 17%. FedEx will implement a 5.9% general rate increase on January 4, 2027.
Operational restructuring remains central to the strategy. Through Network 2.0, FedEx is combining its Express and Ground networks. About 65% of eligible volume now moves through approximately 630 optimized stations. More than 260 locations have already closed, with over 475 closures planned by the end of 2027. Expected savings are approximately $1 billion this year and $2 billion cumulatively by 2027.
FedEx raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $18.00–$18.60 and expects adjusted free cash flow of around $4 billion. Management is targeting annual revenue growth of approximately 4%, driven by 2% volume growth and 2% yield improvement, excluding fuel.
The shift toward specialized logistics and higher-value customers is supporting stronger margins. Investors will be watching whether FedEx can sustain its pricing power and growth as peak shipping season approaches.
