Crypto Inclusion in U.S. 401(k) Plans Advances as Proposal Reaches White House
The inclusion of cryptocurrency in U.S. 401(k) retirement plans is moving forward after the Labor Department submitted its proposal to the White House for review.
U.S. 401(k) plans held $10.1 trillion in assets as of 2025 and had approximately 70 million active participants. If the rule is finalized and employers add crypto funds, workers could invest part of their retirement savings in cryptocurrency.
The Labor Department is still evaluating the potential costs, while Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are pushing to scrap the proposal, citing risks to retirement savings.
