Malaysia and Thailand Join Singapore's BLOOM Initiative for Cross-Border Digital Payments

The central banks of Malaysia and Thailand have reportedly joined Singapore's BLOOM initiative, which explores cross-border payments using stablecoins and tokenized bank deposits.
The collaboration could support the development of more efficient regional payment infrastructure by testing how blockchain-based financial instruments interact across different jurisdictions.
Potential benefits include faster settlement, improved interoperability and reduced friction in international transfers, particularly for businesses operating across Southeast Asia.
However, participation in the initiative does not mean that a fully operational regional payment network has launched. Implementation will depend on regulatory coordination, technical standards, settlement arrangements and the results of participating institutions' trials.
