Chamath and David Sacks Question How Anthropic AI-Risk Narrative Spread So Fast
Chamath Palihapitiya and David Sacks are questioning how an account with almost no following generated roughly 110 million views in a single day around an Anthropic researcher’s resignation.
On the All-In Podcast, Sacks pointed to how quickly the resignation and its AI-doomsday framing were amplified across policy circles.
Within roughly 15 minutes, figures linked to ENCODE AI, the AI Policy Network and the AI Futures Project had reportedly begun circulating the story.
Those groups have received funding from Jaan Tallinn, who also co-led Anthropic’s Series A.
Sacks also noted that the Wall Street Journal published its story on the resignation shortly before the broader social-media push, suggesting the publication had received advance briefing under embargo.
The researcher had also reportedly agreed to appear on the show before cancelling on the morning of the taping.
None of that by itself proves coordinated manipulation.
But the speed of amplification, overlapping funding relationships and synchronized messaging are raising questions about how AI-safety narratives are being shaped ahead of Anthropic’s planned IPO.
For investors, the issue matters because public perception around AI risk, regulation and governance could influence Anthropic’s valuation, policy environment and eventual reception in public markets.
