Jensen Huang Says Quantum Computing Could Help Train AI With Synthetic Scientific Data
Jensen Huang says quantum computing could eventually become an important tool for training AI.
The $NVDA CEO points to biology and chemistry as particularly promising areas.
Quantum systems could simulate complex molecular and physical processes that are extremely difficult for classical computers to model efficiently.
Those simulations could then generate synthetic data for training AI systems.
That creates a potentially powerful feedback loop.
Quantum computers could model parts of the physical world, while AI systems learn from the resulting data and help researchers search much larger scientific design spaces.
Huang is careful not to describe quantum computing as a replacement for today’s AI infrastructure.
“Quantum computer is not the next big thing, but it is a big thing,” he said.
The more realistic long-term model is likely hybrid computing, where GPUs, CPUs and quantum processors each handle the workloads they are best suited for.
For $NVDA, that could expand the computing stack rather than threaten it, especially if AI becomes the interface used to control and interpret quantum simulations.
