US Dollar Reportedly Loses 26% of Purchasing Power Since 2016

The US dollar has reportedly lost approximately 26% of its domestic purchasing power since 2016, according to IMF data presented in a chart by River.
The comparison suggests that even the Bahraini dinar, identified as the strongest performer in the dataset, has lost around 6% of its purchasing power. Meanwhile, Venezuela's bolívar reportedly experienced a 99.99% decline amid extreme inflation.
The figures illustrate how cumulative inflation erodes the real value of money over time, even when nominal currency balances remain unchanged.
Purchasing power losses should not be confused with foreign exchange depreciation. The precise figures depend on the inflation measures, reference dates and methodology used.
