Critical Brotli Vulnerability Reportedly Raises Remote Code Execution Concerns

A reported security vulnerability in Google's Brotli compression library is raising concerns about applications that decompress untrusted data. The issue, identified in the report as CVE-2026-111497, is attributed to researchers from OpenAI's security team.
Potential consequences reportedly include application crashes, sensitive memory exposure and, under certain conditions, remote code execution before authentication. Researchers are also said to have demonstrated code execution in a vulnerable Node.js application.
The reported exposure may extend to software using Brotli through bundled dependencies, including some Python and Node.js environments.
Organizations should verify the advisory and affected versions through official sources, audit dependencies and apply confirmed vendor patches. Brotli 1.2.1 is cited as a potential fix, but patch coverage may vary.
