37 Tech Giants Unite as the Battle Over Open and Closed AI Escalates

$NVDA has launched the Open Secure AI Alliance with 37 founding members, including $MSFT, $IBM, $DELL, $CSCO, $CRWD, $PANW, $CRM, $NOW, $SNOW, Databricks, Red Hat, xAI, and $PLTR.
Notably absent are OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google—the companies behind some of America’s most capable closed AI models.
$PLTR CEO Alex Karp says enterprise customers are frustrated by rising token costs and the risk that proprietary business knowledge could migrate to outside model providers. The alliance’s members largely benefit when companies operate AI on infrastructure they control, while closed-model labs benefit from continued API dependence.
The policy divide is becoming clear: the alliance argues that open models distribute power and improve security, while closed-model developers warn that unrestricted frontier systems could create national-security risks.
This may look like a safety debate, but it is also a fight over who controls the AI stack—and who collects the revenue.
