Four Major Asian Stock Markets Enter Bear Territory as AI Selloff Spreads
Four major Asian equity markets are reportedly trading more than 20% below their recent peaks, with Japan and Taiwan joining South Korea and China's Shenzhen market in bear-market territory.
South Korea is down approximately 45% from its June record, Shenzhen has fallen 30% from its June high, Taiwan is 24% below its October peak, and Japan has declined 21% from its June record.
Japanese, South Korean and Taiwanese equities reportedly lost more than $900 billion in market value during the latest session. Major technology names including TSMC, SK Hynix and SoftBank were down around 10% as the selloff spread from US semiconductor stocks.
The declines show how closely Asian technology markets are tied to global AI investment expectations. The reported drawdowns are measured from different market peaks, so they should not be interpreted as directly comparable year-to-date returns.
