Study: Daily AI Users Score 28 Points Lower, Raising Concerns Over AI's Impact on Learning

A study found that daily AI users scored 28 points below those who never use AI, roughly equivalent to being a year and a half behind their peers academically.
Discussing the findings, one commentator called it "really an indictment of AI in schools," noting that New York City's Zoran Mamdani has opted to ban AI in schools, presumably for this reason. Another pointed to a separate study of Chinese high school and university students, which found that those using AI for homework performed well on assignments but performed poorly on final exams taken without AI assistance.
