Crypto Could Face Tougher Oversight but Gain Broader Bipartisan Support in New Congress
A Democratic sweep could bring tougher crypto oversight, but it may also create opportunities for broader bipartisan support for digital assets and blockchain innovation.
According to Stand With Crypto, 245 pro-crypto candidates have been elected so far, representing 68.2% of midterm winners. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse noted: "Pro-crypto members won on both sides of the aisle." He added: "New Congress, with the same mission: clear rules, built in America."
The crypto industry has spent more than $170 million on the midterms, largely through Fairshake and its affiliates, increasing its influence in Washington.
However, Elizabeth Warren and Maxine Waters are positioned to lead key committees, potentially prioritizing consumer protections, illicit-finance restrictions and scrutiny of Trump-family ventures such as World Liberty Financial. These investigations could complicate efforts to advance the industry-backed CLARITY legislation.
Tougher negotiations could also create an opportunity to establish crypto regulations with broader political support and stronger safeguards.
