Anthropic Commits 5% Equity to Public Benefit Fund Ahead of Potential $1.5T-$2T IPO
Artificial intelligence developer Anthropic announced the formation of the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, committing an initial 5% of the company's equity—subject to stockholder approval—to support workers and communities displaced by rapid workplace automation.
Structured as a wholly owned Limited Liability Company (LLC) rather than a traditional 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the entity retains legal leeway to issue direct cash assistance to affected populations alongside funding vocational retraining programs. Under the proposed charter, the fund is prohibited from political lobbying, and the board may allocate an additional 2% equity stake for every 50% increase in corporate valuation above a baseline milestone.
Combined with founder equity pledges of 80% and employee donation-matching programs, roughly 20% of Anthropic's total shares are slated for public benefit initiatives. Ahead of a projected public offering with private market valuation estimates ranging between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion, the initial 5% allocation represents a theoretical value of $75 billion to $100 billion, though realizable capital remains contingent on future share liquidity, IPO execution, and market conditions.
