Arthur Hayes Says AI Bubble Won’t Burst Like 2008 Due to Inevitable Government Bailouts

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes argues that while the artificial intelligence boom may experience significant volatility, it will not suffer a catastrophic collapse like the 2008 financial crisis because governments will step in to prevent systemic failures.
Speaking in a recent interview, Hayes noted that the AI sector has become too heavily leveraged and deeply integrated into the financial system for authorities to allow major firms to fail. Pointing to massive infrastructure borrowing—such as CoreWeave accumulating roughly $50 billion in debt and Gartner warning that over $3.5 trillion in AI investments could face impairment by 2030—Hayes suggested policymakers would inevitably rescue key entities like OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX if they falter.
Rather than shorting the sector, Hayes advises investors to "go long the bailout," directing capital toward scarce financial assets such as Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies, and gold that historically appreciate when authorities resort to aggressive monetary expansion and liquidity injections.
