South Korean stocks plunge again as AI selloff hits Samsung and SK Hynix
South Korean stocks extended their losses on November 4, with the KOSPI falling more than 3% as renewed selling pressure hit semiconductor and AI-related shares.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix were among the biggest casualties, declining approximately 5.9% and 6.5%, respectively, as investors reassessed the outlook for global AI infrastructure spending.
The selloff followed a 3.6% decline in the KOSPI on Tuesday, when foreign investors sold more than 1.5 trillion won worth of Korean equities.
Concerns over tighter US regulation of AI data centers following the midterm elections added to existing doubts about technology valuations and the sustainability of massive AI investments.
South Korea's heavy exposure to memory chips makes its stock market particularly sensitive to shifts in global technology sentiment.
