US Moves Closer to $41.1T Federal Debt Limit

U.S. gross federal debt has moved above $40T, while the statutory debt limit stands at $41.1T.
That leaves less than roughly $1.1T of additional room relative to the headline debt total.
Budget projections indicate the Treasury could reach the statutory limit during 2027 without congressional action. Some Republican lawmakers are considering another debt-limit increase before the next Congress takes office.
