Trump Pushes Back on Calls to Slow AI: “Whoever Wins AI, Wins”
President Trump is pushing back against calls for the AI industry to slow down or face heavier regulation.
Asked whether AI development should be slowed, Trump said the priority should be maintaining the U.S. lead over China.
“Whoever wins AI, wins,” Trump said.
He argued that the U.S. is currently ahead and should focus on preserving that advantage rather than limiting development.
“You have a lot of negative forces bringing up things that won’t happen,” Trump added.
The comments highlight the growing policy divide around AI.
Some researchers and industry figures are calling for tighter oversight and slower deployment, while Trump is framing the issue primarily as a strategic competition with China.
For markets, that stance could support continued investment in semiconductors, data centers, power infrastructure and other parts of the U.S. AI buildout.
