Google and Constellation Energy Ink Landmark Nuclear Deal Adding 890 MW to Power AI Infrastructure

Alphabet’s Google ($GOOGL) has finalized a comprehensive 20-year clean energy agreement with Constellation Energy ($CEG), the largest commercial nuclear plant operator in the United States, to secure dedicated power for its expanding artificial intelligence data center footprint.
The deal will catalyze more than $4.3 billion in private capital investment from Constellation to execute reactor uprates across 11 nuclear units located in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. These modernization upgrades will add 890 megawatts of incremental clean, firm baseload generation to the PJM Interconnection grid—equivalent to the output of a new conventional nuclear reactor—with initial capacity scheduled to come online in 2028.
The contract is structured around PJM's "Bring Your Own Power" framework and aligns with the White House Ratepayer Protection Pledge, ensuring the tech giant funds new generation infrastructure directly without shifting transmission and capacity costs onto residential consumers. The pact follows recent nuclear power procurement deals by Amazon ($AMZN) and Microsoft ($MSFT), reinforcing nuclear energy as essential infrastructure for hyperscale AI compute.
