Mistral CEO Says AI Is Erasing the Traditional Software Moat

Mistral AI CEO Arthur Mensch says enterprises can now build fully customised applications for procurement, supply chains, and internal workflows in just a few days —work that previously required specialised vertical SaaS platforms.
In his view, the user interface is no longer the moat. The real value lies in the context layer: connections to systems of record that allow AI agents to continuously retrieve data and understand what is happening across an organisation.
Mistral now has more than 100 enterprise customers exploring broader IT replatforming, including replacing legacy software that has become expensive, difficult to customise, and costly to maintain.
AI may be accelerating software creation dramatically, but deployment—particularly in regulated industries—still depends on proving that these rapidly generated systems are reliable, compliant, and operating as intended.
