Trump Says Interest Rates Are Too High After Fed Rate Hike

President Trump is criticizing the Federal Reserve’s latest rate hike, saying U.S. interest rates remain too high.
Asked whether Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh based his decision on any conversation with him, Trump responded, “I don’t know who you’re referring to.”
Trump also said he wants Warsh to remain independent while making clear that his own view on monetary policy has not changed.
“I want him to be independent, but my opinion, I’m very good at this stuff, interest rates are too high,” Trump said.
The comments highlight the continued tension between the White House’s preference for lower borrowing costs and the Fed’s independent monetary policy process.
