Michael Burry Leads Lawsuit Seeking to Block 25-Home Development in California
Michael Burry, best known for his successful bet against the U.S. housing market before the financial crisis, is now leading a group seeking to block a housing development near his home in Saratoga, California.
Burry is president of Citizens for Responsible and Equitable Development, which has asked a state court to halt construction of a 25-home hillside project, according to Bloomberg.
The development includes five homes designated for lower-income households.
The group’s September 17 complaint argues that the project could create safety risks by overwhelming a key evacuation route during a wildfire.
The lawsuit centers on whether the development can safely proceed given the area’s terrain and emergency access constraints.
For now, the dispute is a local land-use and safety case, with the court set to determine whether the project should be allowed to move forward.
