Sphere Entertainment Beats Q3 Revenue Estimates but Reports Wider Loss

Sphere Entertainment $SPHR reported third-quarter revenue of $274.3 million, up 4% year over year and above the $268 million analyst estimate. However, its loss of $4.84 per share was substantially wider than the expected $1.67 loss.
The company's Sphere segment generated $198.9 million in revenue, an increase of 14%, while MSG Networks revenue declined 15% to $75.4 million. Adjusted operating income rose 8% to $39.2 million.
Results included a $177.6 million non-cash goodwill impairment charge, which contributed to the reported GAAP loss.
Sphere continues to expand its entertainment programming, with 24 Metallica concerts planned through March 2027. The venue also has up to 63 Backstreet Boys performances and 74 Eagles performances planned.
Management expects continued growth in the Sphere segment and is pursuing a longer-term strategy involving additional venues and original content. The earnings report highlights stronger venue operations alongside significant accounting charges and weaker performance at MSG Networks.
