Tether Reveals 150,000 BTC Holdings Worth $11.5B, Second Only to Strategy Among Major Corporate Holders
Tether holds approximately 150,000 $BTC worth $11.5 billion, according to CEO Paolo Ardoino, revealing a substantially larger Bitcoin position than previously reflected in its reported USDT reserves.
The holdings would exceed those of every publicly traded company on BitcoinTreasuries' ranking except Strategy $MSTR, which reportedly owns 849,327 BTC, approximately 5.7 times Tether's position.
Tether does not appear in that public-company ranking because it is privately held. Its reported total Bitcoin holdings are also roughly 50,000 BTC higher than the amount previously disclosed as part of its USDT reserves.
The difference could reflect Bitcoin held through Tether's proprietary investments rather than assets backing its stablecoin liabilities. However, Ardoino did not clarify the breakdown or confirm that the additional holdings resulted from a recent purchase, according to CoinDesk.
Tether has a policy of allocating up to 15% of its net realized operating profits toward Bitcoin purchases. The disclosure reinforces its position as a major corporate Bitcoin holder, although the timing and composition of its accumulated holdings remain unclear.
