Crypto-backed Andy Barr wins Kentucky Senate race after $7M in industry support
Republican Andy Barr has won Kentucky's US Senate race, defeating Democrat Charles Booker and securing the seat held by retiring Senator Mitch McConnell.
Barr has been a prominent supporter of cryptocurrency legislation, including the CLARITY Act and GENIUS Act, which seek to establish clearer federal rules for digital assets and stablecoins.
His campaign received substantial support from the crypto industry. Fairshake-affiliated political groups spent approximately $7.17 million backing Barr during the Republican primary, according to campaign finance disclosures.
Barr has also introduced legislation aimed at preventing banks and regulators from denying financial services to lawful businesses, including cryptocurrency firms.
His victory adds another crypto-friendly lawmaker to the Senate as the industry continues pushing for broader digital asset market structure legislation.
However, the outcome does not guarantee progress on the CLARITY Act, which still faces legislative hurdles.
