Sam Altman: My Work at OpenAI Isn't a 10% Risk of Destroying the World

Sam Altman said he does not believe his work at OpenAI carries a 10% chance of destroying the world. He said becoming a father has changed how he thinks about the future, but not his concern about AI safety, adding that he would not accept a literal 10% chance of his son being destroyed in exchange for an extraordinary future.
Altman said he felt responsible for protecting humanity's future before becoming a father, and feels that responsibility even more personally now.
Traders are pricing a 28% chance that OpenAI formally announces it has achieved AGI before the end of 2026.
