Nvidia Reportedly Tells Data Center Partners to Reduce Business With Chinese Customers

Nvidia ($NVDA) is reportedly asking its data center and cloud partners worldwide to reduce their exposure to Chinese customers, according to the Financial Times.
Key details:
🔹 Cloud providers have reportedly been asked to ensure at least 51% of their services go to non-Chinese companies.
🔹 The guidance applies to future contracts, not existing agreements.
🔹 The instructions were reportedly communicated verbally through Nvidia’s sales and regional teams.
🔹 The guidance is not described as a mandatory rule, according to The Information.
The move could restrict Chinese AI developers’ access to advanced Nvidia chips through overseas cloud-computing providers, a channel some companies have used to access computing power despite U.S. export controls.
Nvidia neither confirmed nor denied the reported restrictions. The company said that data centers built on American chips are essential to helping U.S. AI companies compete globally.
The development adds another layer of tension to the U.S.-China AI competition and could create challenges for cloud providers that depend heavily on Chinese customers.
Reuters said it could not immediately verify the Financial Times report.
