$AAPL Expands Into the Smart Home With the Apple Home Collection and a $299 HomeView Display
$AAPL is getting ready to introduce the Apple Home Collection, a lineup of cameras, thermostats, sensors, a video doorbell and a smart lock made in collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, according to TheStreet. Products start arriving in December, with more coming in early 2027. All of them are compatible with Thread and work through Apple Home.
Apple's own addition is HomeView, a $299 seven-inch smart display that can recognize the faces and voices of up to six household members and uses Siri AI to manage connected devices. It goes on sale November 13 in the U.S. and several other markets. Google's Nest Hub Max is priced at $229.
LG's pricing starts at $249.95 for the wired video doorbell, $399.95 for a floodlight camera, $199.95 for an interior camera, $299.95 for an outdoor camera, $199.95 for a thermostat and $349.95 for a smart lock. Schneider Electric's thermostat costs $199.95, and its humidity and room temperature sensors start at $39.95.
Apple says camera video and personal data are fully secured and inaccessible to LG, Schneider Electric or Apple. Cameras can store 10 days of encrypted event history for users with a compatible iCloud+ subscription. Reuters reported that the push is designed not only to boost hardware sales but also to potentially expand high-margin services revenue, including iCloud.
