Nick Bostrom Calls for Greater Consideration of AI "Digital Minds" Welfare

Nick Bostrom argued more attention should be paid to the welfare of digital minds being created, warning against "a future where there's like a suffering slave class of oppressed digital minds that constitute the majority of morally relevant beings."
He suggested the ethical imperative to treat AI well could also carry safety benefits, noting there are scenarios where a misaligned AI could have goals it wants to achieve.
