$CXMT Gains DRAM Share, but the Market Is Sending a Different Signal

There is a curious divergence developing in the memory trade.
$CXMT continues to gain global DRAM market share and recently received bullish headlines around aggressive capacity expansion.
Yet its perpetual futures are not outperforming the way that narrative might suggest.
Meanwhile, $MU is supposedly losing share in conventional DRAM but is showing stronger relative price action.
That raises an important question: is the market looking beyond headline market share?
For memory producers, volume alone does not determine economics.
Product mix, pricing power, margins and exposure to higher-value products such as HBM can matter far more than total DRAM share.
$MU is increasingly positioned around advanced AI memory, where supply remains constrained and economics can be substantially stronger than in conventional DRAM.
At the same time, $CXMT’s rapid capacity expansion could eventually create additional supply pressure in mature DRAM segments.
So the divergence may not be as contradictory as it first appears.
The market could be signaling that gaining commodity DRAM share and capturing the most profitable part of the memory cycle are two very different things.
The long-term thesis remains focused on $MU and $SNDK across memory and storage, while this divergence is worth watching for clues about where investors believe future industry profits will concentrate.
