SpaceX Delayed Starship Orbital Flight to Diagnose Engine Failure and Ensure Safe Return Capability

SpaceX postponed sending Starship into orbit until engineering teams fully diagnosed the root cause of a recent engine anomaly, according to CEO Elon Musk.
Musk stated that the primary technical priority was confirming vehicle recovery safety. Engineers had to verify whether the initial failure could cascade to other Raptor engines. The critical mission risk centered on whether the three sea-level Raptor engines could reliably restart for the necessary deorbit burn to prevent the spacecraft from becoming stranded in orbit.
Telemetry analysis determined that the failure was isolated to an individual engine computer's software rather than a systemic hardware defect, giving mission teams the clearance to proceed with orbital flight objectives.
