Amazon Reportedly Stockpiling $NVDA Racks Ahead of Data Center Power Readiness

Amazon ($AMZN) is reportedly taking delivery of billions of dollars in NVIDIA ($NVDA) artificial intelligence hardware before its data centers have the infrastructure or electrical power ready to support them, according to a report from Business Insider. Under a program dubbed "Early Rack Receipt," Amazon Web Services (AWS) has shifted to taking early ownership of hardware directly from suppliers rather than waiting for facilities to be deployment-ready, resulting in server racks being staged in warehouses.
Internal documents cited in the report indicate Amazon took delivery of roughly $5 billion in NVIDIA GB300 server racks in August, with projections of approximately $3 billion in monthly deliveries continuing thereafter. The aggressive procurement strategy underscores the scramble among hyperscalers to lock in scarce compute allocations, even as utility interconnections and site buildouts lag behind hardware deliveries.
The gap between capital expenditure and deployment has begun impacting cash flows, with the heavy cash outlay pushing back the timeframe for revenue realization. Addressing the stockpiling reports, financial commentator Jen Saarbach of The Wall Street Skinny remarked on the contrast between earlier market narratives of widespread chip shortages and the reality of hyperscalers warehousing unpowered silicon.
