Enterprise AI Shift Toward Model 'Rightsizing' Poses New Threat to Mega-Cap Capex

Enterprises are not abandoning artificial intelligence, but they are increasingly "rightsizing" their implementations, according to financial analyst Dave Nadig. Companies are actively migrating workloads from expensive frontier models to cheaper, domain-specific alternatives that accomplish the same tasks, while implementing strict internal spending caps on employee usage.
This transition toward operational cost efficiency may pose a more immediate threat to sustained AI infrastructure and compute spending than broader concerns over aggregate compute demand, as corporate budgets prioritize cost containment over premium model subscriptions.
