Dan Boneh Pushes Back on "Quantum Kills Bitcoin" Headlines
Dan Boneh, speaking on a16z crypto hosted by Tim Roughgarden, pushed back on renewed "quantum kills Bitcoin" headlines, pointing to a Jim Cramer sell call and a D-Wave marketing claim that quantum computing will "destroy" proof-of-work as the source of the noise.
Boneh said hash-based post-quantum signatures for Bitcoin and Ethereum are already in active standardization, with Bitcoin's own version, Shrinks, having a BIP being drafted this summer. He said the cryptography problem is solved, while the rollout problem, involving hardware and block size, is not.
