Google CEO Sundar Pichai Announces Project Suncatcher to Test AI Chips in Space via SpaceX and Planet Labs

Alphabet’s Google is launching Project Suncatcher to test whether custom Tensor Processing Units can survive and operate in low Earth orbit.
The prototype satellite, built in partnership with Planet Labs, is scheduled to fly on SpaceX’s upcoming Transporter-18 rideshare mission.
The research initiative aims to evaluate hardware resilience against launch forces, radiation, and thermal extremes, exploring whether orbital environments can eventually support energy-intensive artificial intelligence infrastructure.
