David Sacks Says AI Accord Was Signed Voluntarily, but the Governance That Follows Isn't
David Sacks said the AI accord was signed voluntarily, but the governance that follows isn't. Once a board holds an outside audit report, ignoring it becomes a fiduciary problem.
Asked by Jason Calacanis how the accord gets teeth, Sacks described three parts:
- Labs own the responsibility
- Outside auditors check internal controls
- The reports go to an independent board committee
Calacanis added that directors carry D&O liability insurance, so a board that ignores an audit puts its own cover at risk. Sacks said none of it needs new legislation or a treaty.
According to Podcast Alpha, a voluntary AI pledge now carries board liability, with the board as the first enforcer and the FTC and SEC behind it.
