Sberbank to Launch In-App Crypto Trading on December 1 in Major Institutional Pivot
Russia’s largest state-owned lender, Sberbank, announced plans to integrate retail cryptocurrency trading directly into its core banking mobile application starting December 1, according to an analysis shared by crypto analyst and podcaster Scott Melker ("The Wolf of All Streets").
The rollout marks a significant expansion of digital asset accessibility across Eastern Europe, allowing Sberbank's vast domestic retail customer base to buy, sell, and custody select digital assets directly through existing fiat banking interfaces. The integration follows gradual legislative and regulatory shifts within Russia aimed at formalizing digital financial assets (DFAs) and cross-border crypto settlement infrastructure to circumvent international sanctions and capital friction.
Melker emphasized that embedding direct crypto on-ramps into the nation's dominant consumer banking app represents another major step in institutional and sovereign adoption, mirroring broader international trends where legacy banking giants are forced to meet rising consumer demand for digital and tokenized assets.
