Amazon Backs Proposed 960 MW Nuclear Project With AEP and X-energy in Indiana
Amazon $AMZN is reportedly supporting a proposed 960 MW nuclear energy project alongside American Electric Power $AEP and reactor developer X-energy.
The project would deploy 12 small modular reactors at a former coal power plant in Indiana, potentially repurposing existing transmission and grid infrastructure to accelerate development.
Amazon would help finance early-stage work, while AEP evaluates the project's feasibility and potential integration into the regional electricity system.
The proposal highlights growing interest in nuclear power as technology companies seek reliable electricity for expanding AI and data center operations. However, construction remains subject to feasibility assessments, regulatory approvals, financing and project execution. X-energy is privately held.
