Sam Altman: AI Has Not Had Its "iPhone Moment" Yet

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said artificial intelligence has yet to have its "iPhone moment," comparing the current period to the smartphone era before the iPhone's launch.
Altman said he was an early adopter of a Palm Treo in 2003 or 2004, noting that much of the underlying technology existed at the time but the product ideas that defined the iPhone were still missing.
He said the AI industry now has most of the necessary technological pieces in place, but has not yet seen the equivalent breakthrough moment that fundamentally changes how people interface with technology.
