Sam Altman Recalls Almost Giving Up on Artificial Intelligence Before Founding OpenAI in 2015

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared that he originally never believed he would get the opportunity to work professionally on artificial intelligence, nearly giving up on the field early in his career before a pivotal side quest and a watershed technological moment in 2012 paved the way for founding OpenAI in 2015.
Speaking at the G20 summit, Altman reflected on his journey: "I was always an AI nerd... I never like really thought I'd actually get to do it. I kind of can't believe this happened."
