$TSLA Launches Steering-Wheel-Free Cybercab Rides in Austin

$TSLA has launched public Cybercab rides in Austin through its Robotaxi app, marking the first deployment of Tesla’s purpose-built autonomous vehicle.
The company has registered 45 Cybercabs in Texas, bringing its total robotaxi fleet in the state to 420 vehicles.
The two-seat Cybercab has no steering wheel, pedals or mirrors.
Instead, it relies on cameras and neural networks for autonomous driving rather than lidar or radar.
The vehicle also includes in-car entertainment and integrated Starlink V5 connectivity.
Cybercab is not yet available for commercial sale, but $TSLA has opened a form for potential fleet buyers.
Federal safety rules remain a key hurdle, as Tesla has not yet filed for an NHTSA exemption that would allow commercial sales of a vehicle without traditional controls.
For $TSLA, the Austin rollout is an important step toward proving that its autonomous vehicle strategy can move from prototype to real-world deployment at scale.
