DeepSeek Reportedly Raised $7B as IPO Expectations Build
DeepSeek has reportedly raised $7 billion after spending years primarily funded by its founder.
Kevin Carter of EMQQ Global says roughly $3 billion of that capital came from founder Liang Wenfeng himself.
Liang originally built his wealth through High-Flyer, the quantitative hedge fund that helped finance DeepSeek during its early development.
That financing structure allowed DeepSeek to scale without relying heavily on outside investors during its formative years.
The reported $7 billion raise marks a major shift.
DeepSeek is now competing in a capital-intensive AI race where compute, data centers and advanced chips require billions of dollars in ongoing investment.
Carter also expects the company to pursue an IPO later this year or in early 2027.
If that happens, DeepSeek could become one of the most closely watched public listings in the global AI sector.
The bigger question is whether its low-cost model development advantage can translate into a durable commercial business as infrastructure spending accelerates.
