Tether Says It Holds 150 Tons of Gold and Over 100,000 Bitcoin
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino says the stablecoin giant has amassed roughly 150 tons of physical gold and more than 100,000 Bitcoin.
The scale puts Tether in an unusual position between crypto company, major Treasury holder and sovereign-sized reserve manager.
Its latest Q2 disclosures showed more than 146 tons of gold, with Ardoino now describing the total as roughly 150 tons.
Tether also recently completed its first full financial audit with KPMG U.S.
According to the company, auditors physically inspected and counted every individual gold bar held by Tether.
Ardoino joked about the process:
“You have just to be good at lifting and have good muscles.”
Tether is increasingly looking less like a traditional crypto company and more like a massive private reserve institution holding Bitcoin, gold and U.S. Treasuries.
