Crypto Lending Vaults Surpass $10B as Regulators Examine Growing DeFi Risks
Assets deposited in cryptocurrency lending vaults have reportedly surpassed $10 billion, compared with approximately $4 billion at the beginning of last year, according to the Financial Times.
The expansion reflects growing demand for automated lending strategies and blockchain-based yield products that allocate deposited assets across different protocols.
However, rapid growth is attracting scrutiny from regulators in the United States and Europe over transparency, leverage, liquidity management and investor protections.
Lending vaults can expose depositors to smart contract vulnerabilities, borrower defaults and interconnected protocol risks. Their increasing size makes effective risk controls particularly important, especially during periods of market volatility.
