SHAKTI Partner Dismisses AI Overcapacity Fears, Citing Massive Data Center Construction Lag

SHAKTI Partner Liz Harrow pushed back against growing market concerns over potential overbuilding in artificial intelligence infrastructure, arguing that severe real-world construction bottlenecks will prevent capacity gluts for the foreseeable future.
Addressing the gap between corporate hyperscaler announcements and physical grid deployment, Harrow highlighted that less than one-fifth of announced data centers have actually broken ground:
- Construction Deficit: Less than 20% of publicly planned data center facilities have commenced physical construction, significantly delaying actual capacity delivery.
- Supply Constraints: Persistent bottlenecks around power procurement, utility grid connections, and specialized infrastructure hardware continue to temper the speed of capacity expansion.
- Capacity Horizon: Because physical delivery trails paper announcements by years, Harrow projected that the AI ecosystem will not face meaningful overcapacity for an extended period.
