Peter Thiel: The Real Divide Is Competent vs. Incompetent, Not Good vs. Evil

Speaking on MDMEETS, Peter Thiel pushed back on Mathias Döpfner's framing of new technology as morally neutral, like a knife that can be used for cooking or killing. Thiel argued society moralizes far too much, and that the split that actually matters is competent versus incompetent rather than good versus evil.
He illustrated the point by contrasting Goethe's Faust, who cuts a deal with the devil and is still redeemed, with Marlowe's Faust, an incompetent fake scientist who goes straight to hell. Thiel said 99% of companies and leaders are neither good nor evil but simply incompetent, arguing that management should be judged by what they execute rather than by what they claim to intend.
